Community guidelines
Social Bird is a place to share the birds you find and help each other. These guidelines keep it welcoming — and keep wildlife safe.
Be respectful
Treat other birders with kindness. Helpful corrections and ID suggestions are welcome; harassment, insults, hate speech, and personal attacks are not. We operate a zero-tolerance policy for objectionable content and abusive users, which you agree to when you create an account.
What's not allowed
- Hate speech, harassment, threats, or bullying.
- Sexual, violent, or otherwise objectionable content.
- Spam, scams, or misleading content.
- Impersonation or posting someone else's content or photos without permission.
- Illegal content, or content that encourages harming birds, other wildlife, or habitats.
Share wildlife locations responsibly
Pinpointing rare, nesting, or sensitive birds can put them at risk from crowds or disturbance. Social Bird hides your exact sighting location from others by default — only share precise coordinates when it's safe and appropriate, and consider keeping sensitive sightings private. Never share locations in a way that could endanger a nest, a roost, or a vulnerable species.
Reporting & blocking
If you see content or behavior that breaks these guidelines:
- Report it — posts, comments, profiles, outing stories, and identification suggestions each have a report option in their menu.
- Block a user from their profile — blocking hides you and that user from each other across feeds, the map, and community features.
How moderation works
We use automated filtering to block objectionable terms before content is posted, and content that is reported by multiple people is automatically hidden pending review. We review reports and act on violations — typically within 24 hours — which may include removing content or suspending accounts. Serious or repeated violations can result in removal from Social Bird.
