Social Bird membership

Membership unlocks the full birding toolkit — identification, your collections, the map, outings, and community participation — and helps keep Social Bird running.

Membership

$5.99 / month

14-day free trial for eligible subscribers, then $5.99/month. Renews automatically until you cancel.

Membership includes

  • AI photo identification suggestions
  • Record, import, and share your sightings
  • Your species collections and regional lists
  • Sighting pins and saved spots on your map
  • Outing route recording (pause & resume)
  • A wish list with alerts when target species are reported near you
  • Post in the community, follow birders, and earn achievements

No annual plan at launch. Prices shown in US dollars; Apple sets the equivalent price in your region.

Free to browse

What you can do without membership

You can download the app and explore before deciding:

  • Browse the Discover feed and the community
  • View public birder profiles
  • Browse species and "Birds recorded in [region]" collections
  • Open the base map
  • Manage your account, get support, and read our policies

Member actions — identifying, recording sightings, map pins, outings, and posting — prompt you to start a membership, but you can keep browsing.

Trial, renewal, and cancellation

Billing is handled by Apple through your App Store account. Social Bird never sees or stores your payment details.

Free trial eligibility

When you're eligible for the introductory free trial, the app shows it before you subscribe ("2 weeks free for eligible subscribers"). Eligibility is determined by Apple based on your subscription history — if you've used a Social Bird trial before, you may not be eligible again. If no trial is offered, you'll see a plain "Subscribe" option instead, with no trial promised.

Renewal

Membership is an auto-renewable subscription. After any free trial, it renews at $5.99/month until you cancel. Apple charges your account and notifies you per their standard policies.

Cancellation

You can cancel anytime in iPhone Settings → your name → Subscriptions (or App Store → your account → Subscriptions). Cancelling stops future renewals; you keep access until the end of the paid period. There is no separate in-app cancel button because Apple manages subscriptions centrally.

Restoring a purchase

Using a new device or reinstalling? Tap Restore purchases on the membership screen to restore an active subscription tied to your Apple ID.

Deleting your account is not the same as cancelling. If you delete your Social Bird account, cancel your subscription in iPhone Settings first — deleting the account does not stop Apple billing. See Delete your account.

Preparing for the App Store

Social Bird is currently in private TestFlight beta and is not yet available to purchase. When the app is live on the App Store, membership will be available directly in the app.
